The Hazy Hills Ranchettes water system had been in receivership for many years and was in very poor condition. In 2011 the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality gave the community of Hazy Hills a choice, take the water system over or risk it being shut down.
The community, not really having a choice, voted to take over the water system. A preliminary Board of Directors (BoD) was elected. They generated the initial Bylaws and Tariff and established the Hazy Hills Water Supply Corporation (HHWSC).
When the community took over the water system, not only was in very poor condition, but it was also in debt from years of neglect and management.
One of the very first actions of the BoD was to hire a new operator for the water system. Spicewood Utility Services was selected and have been operating the water system ever since. Through their dedication and experience, they have greatly improved the reliability of the water system.
In 2015 the BoD applied for and received a $94,000 grant from the Texas Water Development Board for planning and design of upgrades to the water system. See the Latest News page for additional information on the water system upgrades.
Today, the water system is stable and meets the minimum TCEQ requirements.
